The Wind Ensemble is a dynamic, vibrant force for the advancement of our musical art here in the city of Atlanta. It has long been a haven for musical expression by some of the finest young musicians studying at Georgia Tech. The Georgia Tech Wind Ensemble is comprised of 45-50 exceptional student musicians.
The group continues to grow with the vision of exploring the best of the wind ensemble repertoire while realizing the limitless possibilities of winds in performance. Open by audition to the students of the Institute, the ensemble has much to celebrate in over one hundred years of band at Tech.
The Wind Ensemble has established a reputation for excellence in musical performance. International performances have included global collaboration with both the University of Western Sydney and Avondale College during a performance tour of Australia in 2007. Chamber ensemble elements engaged the culture of Shanghai and Beijing, China in a performance tour during 2006. The former Symphonic Band shared the stage with the Dublin Institute of Technology Wind Ensemble in Dublin, Ireland in 2001 in commemoration of St. Patrick's Day.
Recent regional performances have included the College Band Directors' National Association/National Band Association Southern Division Conference in 2002 and 2008 and the Georgia Music Educators' Association In-Service Conference in 2006. Premiere performances at these concerts were written specifically for the ensemble by Dr. Allen, Tom Bahler, Brian Balmages, Aldo Forte, Chris Moore, and George Schneider.
This ensemble is a group dedicated to musical excellence performing with the highest level of musicianship. The Wind Ensemble performs on-campus concerts at the Robert Ferst Theater during the academic year, as well as performances at music conferences, conventions and festivals locally, regionally, and internationally. Students audition each semester for this outstanding ensemble.
Auditions are scheduled during the first week of classes (see information below). You may sign up for an audition time the week before classes begin. Sign-up sheets will be posted in front of Room 109 of the Couch Building.
